I was just preparing to upload a YouTube video and I ran across one that I posted this spring. Its kind of fun and I thought you folks might enjoy it. If nothing else, it's a little break from the political bickering.

My daughter had to do a demonstration speech video for school and she asked me if she could teach her classmates how to start a Model T. What she didn't mention, is that she's been doing this since she was seven. Start 'em young and hope it sticks.

Perfect, left-handed/thumb-tucked (and therefore 100% safe) technique! Ain't never seen it done better!

What a sweetheart, maybe we can use her for our tv advertising for my wife's Subaru business. Very believable and homespun.

Good job. The other day the battery was very low charge in my '26. But hey, I figured no problem, I simply set the brake, gave it four clicks advance on the spark and a couple clicks on the throttle. Turned the key to BAT, walked around and grabbed the crank with my right hand and was about to give it a good hard pull and suddenly my brain kicked in gear. I grabbed the crank with my left hand, tucked my thumb and gave 'er a pull. For one of the few times I can remember the car kicked back and jerked the crank out of my hands. There's no doubt whatsoever I would have been hurt if I'd continued with my right hand. When the motor kicked back my hand slipped off the handle and the crank swung completely around about 5 or 6 revolutions. Afterwards I checked the timer to assure everything was right with the world. I ended up bending the rod a touch to retard things a bit and now all seems right with it. The good Lord was with me.

Job well done!..It takes some guts to stand there and give a presentation. I prefer to say nothing as can be noted in my 3 little silent videos. :-)

Mike,
Your timing and really everyone's should be set so that the timing control is fully retarded when started on BAT. If you were to start it on MAG power it is reasonable to advance the spark 2 or 3 notches but never on BAT.

Good luck,
Jim

Jim, I think I've found what your saying to be true. These lessons can be tough sometimes but...

She's a good kid. She loves driving our Ts around the trail through the wildflowers in our back yard. She's almost ready to run the car around without me riding shotgun.
