I recently measured the spoke length on the 30" wheels and the 21" demountables. The spokes on the 21" wheels were 1 1/2" shorter than those on the 30" wheels. The spokes on the 21" wheels were also somewhat stouter.
So here's the question: Are the 21" wheels stronger and generally less troublesome than the 30" wheels ?
Hi Bud,
Stronger? Probably. Still a wooden wheel.
Less troublesome? Well, anecdotal evidence suggests that they are prone to much less tire and tube trouble compared to clinchers.
This posted by someone who has never owned a car shod with 21" wheels.
Wow......wonder if anyone younger than, well, my age has ever used the word "shod?" I'm 67.
