Hey that railroad was not too far from me!
I sure would like to have that set of wheels for the '15 railcar I am building!
Benjamin,
You just need to find a set of Kalamazoo wheels!
Yeah, I know, VERY difficult to find, harder than TT rear wheels.
David,
I would love o find a set! I would even be happy to find any 20" pressed steel handcar or railcar wheels. For some reason, they are out there, I have asked alot or speeder/railcar guys, but no one wants to let go of them. There they sit in a barn or yard, rusting away, unused and horded!
Anyone have any decently priced? hahaha!
By the way, does anyone know if the axles have to be altered? The appear to be all normal in this pic, and from what measurements I have seen, they look pretty much close 'in gauge'.
Benjamin,
We made an adapter plate to mount the Fairmont wheels on the T wooden wheel hubs. There was a minor adjustment to meet track gauge--something like 3" out from the wood wheel flange. It's been too long ago for me to remember everything--although we mounted a Fairmont front axle to the T front axle, made the project simpler.
David,
Is that your railcar? I would very much like to know more on how you adapted fairmont wheels. Are those 16" on that car?
I really like your railcar! I am doing a light wooden body on mine, similar to a depot hack. I will PM you with my email address as I would like to pic your brain on this.
