I just got one of the a New Ammeter (minus light) - the original style for our '24 Coupe and have question. It is to replace the ones I been using. They were the one you use the adaptor plate. Question is, when look at it from the inside of the car looking at the dash, what side do you place the battery lead on, to the left (driver) or right (passenger) side?

Thanks,
Tom

I discovered that when I inadvertently put the lead on the wrong side and started the car the ammeter showed discharge. In that case I just changed the leads around and it was fine.

If its one of the new Ammeter's from Fun Projects you can go to the Fun Projects website and get all the information you need for installation.

You can access the website from this website.
Go the the vendors section and you will find it.

When it doubt, just put it together and the turn your headlights on. If t shows that it's charging, then swap the wires. You won't hurt it.

The small repro ammeters available are for a Model A w/positive ground - as is suggested above, simply turn on the headlights, should read minus and wire accordingly.

Those small repro ammeters have caused a lot of fires.

We had one on our last tour.

Here are some photos.

This is a restored original ammeter, but the Fun Projects ammeter is still better.

The problem.

Problem

The cure.

Cure

Nice repair job but too bad the real missing cure is there should have been a single 25 amp fuse in the main power feed line to the small wiring. That feed comes from the battery side of the starter foot switch and a weather tight fuse holder should be installed right there and not someplace else. The fuse should be located for wiring safety and not convenience of location since it should never blow unless there is a wiring short someplace in the car and there is no telling where that might be hence you fuse the power at its source.

I just got time today, and we put in the ammeter. It looks so much better, and easier when sitting in car and will be when driving to read. I(we)want to say thanks to all that helped and tips. The one with the headlight test was a real help, found out had them backwards. As for the fuse we been using one and is a real good idea.

Thanks again,
Tom

Congratulations to all the above for correct spelling of the correct word, AMMETER.
