How much should I expect to pay to have the engine assembled? Including the valve train and all with the correct shims and what not.
Not counting any machine work or any parts, just assembly.
Thanks
Are all the parts clean? Does the assembly person have to spend a lot of time cleaning parts?
There is a lot of fitting required if you do a good job. I'd figure $500 anyway.
That's about right, $500, depending on cleaning and fitting.
Last short block was in '07 and that was the assembly labor, $430.
And note the cylinder boring cost, opening up to .040"....the cost listed is the actual machine shop cost $48.00 for all 4.
2007
And here is a receipt from 1988, where I had a block bored only for new alum pistons, the machine shop cost was $49 for all 4!
Dang, machine shops boring charges haven't changed much!
1988
Everything will be cleaned and I can even balance the pistons, both ends of the rods and piston rings.
I know machine work varies based on shop and the engine itself so I didn't want to bother asking about that.
So $430-$500 answers the question, thanks!
I might have to start charging again, I still do it for nothing for club members, babbitt and all, just the cost of parts!!
I am moving to Oz
