I am considering installing the small drum AC brakes that Larry Sidmore sells. Would like to hear from others concerning their effectiveness and ease of installation.
Steve Shelton installed some on his car a couple years ago and made a video. Maybe he will chime in here again. KGB
I have some and they are excellent. They make a huge difference in braking ability. Actually spoke to Larry yesterday and he said there now is another gentleman who makes a kit with everything you need for the linkage. I haven't seen that yet but Larry sounded like he was impressed with it. If you PM me I can share his name and contact info.
I didn't use Larry's kit, instead I lucked out and got an original set for free from another forum member, I really like them. I used a mix of the equalizer linkage sold by the vendors and the original cable/pulley setup, it required a little fabrication, but not too bad. Here is a link to the threads covering my installation:

Here is a link to a video showing an installation of Larry's kit, this installation uses pull rods instead of a cable, I sometimes watch it just for the neat period music:

For a variety of safety reasons, I prefer a separate and independent cross shaft.
The coupe came that way (one of the reasons I liked it enough to buy). The boat-tail, I made myself. Easy to do. Whatever you do, be certain it is strong and reliable.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
