I started the car up and it wont run on mag although I am getting 15 volts at idle on the mag post It wont run when I turn the switch and the magnets have been charged and the magneto gap is correct and the mag post is clean. Does any body have any suggestions thanks

Check the wire between the mag post and the coil box

Are you getting 15V to the back of the coil box through the wire from the mag post??

If so it is in the coil box or switch.

What condition are your coils in? Were they set up on a HCCT or Strobospark?

John, I am also getting 15 volts through the wire and I am thinking it is the switch.
Hal, my coils were set on an hcct

Switch would be my guess. I just cleaned the one on my 1915 before I got it started a few months ago and I was floored at all the junk inside it.

I would guess the problem is the switch. Is it a new one or an original? If it is original have you ever looked inside?

Stephen

" it wont run on mag although I am getting 15 volts at idle"

I would assume that means it's running on battery?

A brand new toggle switch? That might be part of the problem. How is said toggle switch hooked up? We need pictures of your setup.

Well I figured it out with my neighbor and an analog multimeter, he found that that there was no voltage coming out of the mag post while the engine was running on battery and the new mag was defective along with my digital multimeter so we pulled the engine apart and checked the resistance and we got nothing, he determined that the mag coil is shorted out in two of the windings so Lang's is shipping me a new one and I am bringing this one back to Lang's on monday, Thanks to all of you for the help and espcially to Ron Patterson for his advice about multimeters taking the trans and magneto coil out again, I'm starting to get good at doing this
