It's that time again. This year the tour is in McMinville Oregon - The home of the Spruce Goose.

The "Grumpy Old Men" of Kitsap County will meet at the South Bound rest area at yardstick 91 (South of Olympia) at about 11:00 Thursday Morning. We will then go on the McMilville.

Hope to see you all there.

Don't miss dinner on the roof of the old hotel downtown. I liked the big mushroom burger.

There still may be a Loco steamer in a bank lobby downtown, too.

Stop by Cirrus Aviation and give Robbie a hug for me. She lost her husband and my good friend, Dave Sturm, two months ago.

Ralph - It looks like you just put together a Mini-Tour all by yourself... :-)

Thanks for the tips Ralph. Aren't these your old stomping grounds?

I'm a Southern boy, Bob, born in Ashland; then lived in exotic places like Myrtle Point, Ontario, Salem and Springfield. I made a lot of business trips to MMV 1980-2000, then lived two months in a hotel there in 2007. It's a wonderful town. While I was there, (Major) Frank Burns inherited a '20 coupe, asked for help on this Forum, and I gave him a couple of driving lessons around his farm a few miles north of town. I lost contact with him after that.

Portabella burger; finally thought of the name. The Evergreen Museum is great, too, of course.

I grew up in PDX then in Salem after the service. now in Washington State. The Willamette valley was a great place except during grass seed field burning season.

Will you be taking the ferry across the Willamette? It's a fun little ride, some miles SE of Dayton.

We'll be there with the 11 Tourabout. Hope the traffic on I-5 around Olympia isn't too bad with the bridge expansion joint repair happening. They are saying there could be up to a 14 mile back up at times. Here's the link to this reminder from WSDOT : Drivers strongly urged to avoid I-5 in Olympia over next two weekends http://wsdot.wa.gov/News/2014/09/8_ReminderOfI5WeekendClosures.htm
Probably heading home Sunday will be the worst.

Is it going to rain?

Chance of a few showers on Thursday, clearing off for Friday, Saturday & Sunday back to nice weather.

Ralph,

Don't know if we will ride any of the ferries. When I lived in Salem, I used to ride them all of the time. As I recall, there are two or three electric, tethered ferries on the Willamette between Salem and Portland.

Ken,

We don't expect any problems going down during the day Thursday. We will take an alternate route home on Sunday.

Tom,

Forecast is for no rain - it looks like sunny, a few clouds and 70's.

Ralph,

You raised my curiosity so I has to look it up. There are three electric ferries on the Willamette River. North to South they are Canby, Wheatland and Buena Vista. It would be a great T-Tour to travel the back roads of the Willamette Valley and zig-zag the three ferries.

Awesome. You guys will see the plane that my family donated to the museum. Dad bought it in 1976 and I have made several posts on this forum about it in the past. I wish I could go, but I have to work that day. The plan is to get the J79 afterburners on it, which is why it has the GE logo on the tail.

One of the planes in the museum is an OV-1 Mohawk. I was with this type aircraft in Vietnam and I worked on this particular airplane for 11 years in the Oregon Army National Guard in Salem.

I'm about an hour away and I may be interested in coming down and checking out the cars. I may be able to sneak away on Friday too! Sunday may work too. I'm busy on Saturday.

I would love even a brief ride in a car since I haven't ridden in my T in almost 30 years!

Oh yeah, I attended the college in McMinnville and I may know just a few too many of the wineries in that area if anyone would be interested.
