When I hear/read comments about exclusive validation of one make over all others, all I hear is arrogance and expect the next comment to suggest we need "Fords only" water fountains and special seating at the back of the bus for non-Ford owners.

Sure, Model T's are cool. I own two. But really, ....

I don't like the "all or nothing" business either.
Maybe this will help identify the cars....... :-)

Nice picture Herb. I wonder if they sold the gas in cans?
And Burger, as far as I'm concerned I would let the non Ford owners have the whole bus - I'd rather drive my Ford :-)

I look at the "No Fords" comment more like the Fords are still running down the road and these others need to come in for service!

Great photo and like many of the others I like all old photos

In the brass era, cars were novelty toys and a social scene similar to today's car clubs existed between most car owners.

Personally, anyone with a pre-1930 car of any make has the right idea. Fords are cool, but they are like axxholes ... everybody has at least one ! :-)

Mercers, Stars, Hudsons, Moons, Oldsmobiles, Studebakers, ....

Hey, I LOVE pizza, but if that is all we get to eat, at some point I start wanting something with a little more spice to mix things up, you know ?

Well we are on a Model T forum, shouldn't that be the Ideal Car?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Burger in Spokane on Thursday, September 18, 2014 - 11:11 pm:

Hey, I own two trucks. I guess they meet my picky criteria for "ideal" for my personal investment and interest, but if I stumbled into an old Packard or Locomobile, I would hardly consider the T's to be anything "better".

The point is, nearly any old car is cool, ESPECIALLY when we step back into the pre-1930 era. I find the paradigm of indiscriminate brand loyalty and its subsequent arrogance towards other makes to not only be short on deeper understanding, but comments to such ends are detrimental to the hobby as a whole. We no longer tolerate such commentary toward ethnic differences or the disabled. Why is it considered acceptable in a hobby where so few even own such old cars and the numbers of owners are dying off and one would think we'd want to ENCOURAGE younger people to take an interest ?

Frankly, I don't give a rip if that greenhorn takes a shine to Maxwells or Fords. I want to encourage interest in ALL makes and do whatever I might to discourage the old paradigm of one make over another. It hurts the hobby.

Burger, than why are you here?..last time i checked this was a a Model T forum, not an old car forum, and certainly not a platform for your personal thoughts on your ideas of social justice.

I did say it was a "nice" Maxwell!
Me, just stirring the pot a bit.
Actually, most of the regulars on this forum are very open to non-Fords, both antique, and sometimes modern. Many regulars here have non-Ford antiques. Several regulars ask advice concerning their non-Ford antiques. There are at least four (now) Maxwell owners here (I wish I had one). I have a Paige, and at least two other regulars here also have a Paige. And it is considered a rare car. It has been said that Horseless Carriage owners often get more and better responses here than on the Horseless Carriage sites (sadly, for certain, I wish the Horseless Carriage sites were more active than they are, there are two that I frequent).

There are actually four cars in that photo that I wish I could have. I only know what one of them is, although I have a suspicion on one other.

Dan Haynes, That car is quite intriguing. I keep coming back here to just look at it. It has a look about it like a Stevens Duryea, but I am not sure it is large enough. But, then, there were so many wonderful cars built at that time!
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
