Interesting photo Herb. Strange to see a railroad type block signal on the sidewalk. Only "railroad" I see is what appears to be a track down the middle of the street, and in a small town like that, I doubt the track is for a streetcar line, so must be a railroad. Not unusual to see a railroad track running down the middle of what appears to be a "main drag" in a small town, but the block signal sure looks out of place,.....???
Harold.
In reading some of the early railroad history, and the building of the transcontinental RR, UP and the Central Pacific was given land along there right-away(I believe one Sq. Mile or one section for a depot, every so far) Many times it was not where a town was located and the town would pick up and move lock, stock and barrel and rebuild the town where the depot and RR was. I believe that Yakima WA. was one of the towns that was moved. depending on how the town lot plats were drawn the main line could have been down the middle of the main street. Reaching back in memory is scary to say the least.
