We're enjoying great weather and times on the Glidden Tour. Lots of Fords, A, T, V-8 and two Model K, along with Pierce, Packard, Kissell, Studebaker, Stevens-Duryea, Buick, Stephens and many others. 190 cars from all over the U.S. converged on Defiance Ohio for this historic tour.

A few photos:

And at night after the tour:

You just have too much fun, Rob.

How many big cars on the tour are older than the K?

Ralph,
Yes, we've had the good fortune to attend a few great tours this year.

The two 1907 Ks are the oldest cars on the tour. Then comes a 1909 T (with later engine). As for other "big" cars, I believe there is a 1911 (don't recall the make), then a few 1912-1914 cars. The largest pre 1915 may be the Stevens Duryea pictured above. The owner told me it weighs 4500 lbs. and I believe is rated at 48 hp.

Later I'll post a breakdown on types and numbers of cars, and try to post more pics.

Rob -- You didn't mention what kind of car the two black ones were. :-)

Mike, several nice black ones. I assumed everyone on this forum would know what they were :-)

Another black one:

Another "big" car, 1911 Cadillac. I don't know why but he was on the vulture wagon:

We were in a hurry to get back so the two Ks and a Lincoln Zephyr took interstate the last leg today:

Thank you Rob (and others)! Wonderful pictures.
I could ask so many questions, but the one that jumps out right now would be who owns the Locomobile Sportif? (If you can say?) (Remember, I still haven't told you who owns the Thomas Flyer I rode in. Fair is fair.)
The reason I ask, is pure curiosity. I know four people that own Locomobile Sportifs. A club I belong to has those four and at least two others. I have been told, that there are 17 Sportifs known to exist, five of them wound up on one NATC tour several years ago (I missed that tour darn it). I have seen three of them together. Incredible cars! Almost as nice as a model K.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2

Wayne,
I'll check and find out who owns it (and send a pm).

The mornings begin a little cool, low to upper 40's, however by afternoon it reaches the mid 70's and is beautiful tour weather.

Below are two pics where we are stopped helping a good friend who has been experiencing what we believe are carburetor/fuel system problems. His car is a beautiful 1913 six cylinder Pierce Arrow. Of course, today it may be my car that acts up, so I better knock on wood.

My feet are sticking out from under the Pierce as I adjust the carburetor. The owner said it's not the original carb, and that most Pierce owners don't use the original carb because it didn't work well.

Way to go, Rob! You're proving every day that the Ford K was the best car of the era.

Seem's not very handy to adjust the carb from the under side?? Spose it was the Pierce that led to the [He will have to get out and get under]?? Bud.

Looks like you bought a new pair of shoes for the tour.

Wish I could be with you. Have to go on the local tour this weekend instead. Weather is suppose to be the same as yours.

Ralph,
I believe it was the best car in it's class (for the money), just as the NRS and T were.

Bud,
This carb wasn't originally on a Pierce, and as a result the high speed adjustment is in a tough place to reach next to the engine. The car wouldn't run well so the owner and his wife ended up riding in our K yesterday and will again tomorrow.

Dave,
Enjoy your tour. We've had great fall weather this entire week in Ohio.

That A/C/D Museum is a mind-blower. I hope you post some pics of the cars inside.

Well, the 2014 Glidden is over. Several Model Ts, more Models As, many Ford V-8s and a lot of other great pre-War cars made the tour. Tonight is the banquet and I took a few pics as the sun was setting at the banquet hall. Bob and Pam Brown and all their helpers put on a great tour:

And our muddied Model K put on over 500 miles during the tour, without a hiccup. Now time to go home and polish brass and wash up......

The other Model K made it through with no issues either. Hope you've enjoyed the pics,

Rob
