Has anyone noticed that the bottom contact bar on the new coil box kits are shorter by an inch? This means that I need to drill new holes to meet the new holes in the contact bar. The coil contacts themselves match but rivet holes do not.
Didn't have any problem with John Regan's kit from Fun Projects.
Will, Who made your kit? I've used several of the Fun Projects kits and marveled at how well everything lined up.
Since my job involves dimensioning and tolerancing, I remain fascinated with the accuracy of the narrow slot where the tie bar crosses between the #2 & #3 coils. It's easy to punch in wood but difficult to machine in plastic.
I ended up using the old copper strip. This was one of John Regan's modern kit's but I bought it from my normal supplier and not John. I highly doubt that the bottom copper strip came from John. Im sure the rest of the kit came from somewhere else. I will be calling my supplier later today to tell them about the problem.
Looks like you received a kit for an engine mounted coil box:

Mark, I believe you are absolutely right. It does appear that's what happened. I learn something new everyday.
Mark is right you have the late 25-27 coil box kit for the engine mount coil box.
I guess I better get some seasoning, I never like sticking my foot in my mouth without at least a little salt and pepper
Will, don't worry about it, I've eaten crow so much I've developed a taste for it! KGB
Same here. No problem with John Regan's kit.
Yep you guys figured it out. Will - Ford made that change - not me! ha ha. The contacts for the back of the box are also way different so they also are not going to fit correctly although they might be installed without a fight. The contacts will be offset on both sides and not line up with the coils if you use 26/27 contact set in a 13-25 coil box.
