Oct 16-18 mama and I will be there for a short vacation. I have this feeling Ganena is more of the interest of the female. Im sure I will be wanting to find a guy thing to do like looking at a car or two.
Years ago they had a small car museum with a lot of Ts, but gone last time I was there. The city tour gives a lot of info about building architecture, manzards, etc.
Galena is U. S. President Grant's home. His original house is open as a museum. Nearly all of the house, including furniture and floor coverings, is original. I spent an enjoyable couple of hours touring the house.
Galena is a really cool old town in amazing state of preservation. Besides Grant's home, the Galena Historical Society Museum on the hill and the Marketplace downtown are interesting places. Depending how you are coming in to town, the trip from Chicago to Galena on Rte 20 gets really scenic this time of year from roughly Freeport, IL to Galena. I believe you will find it an interesting and fun destination.
