Go to any tank or fab shop and have them whip one up. I am having an air tank made to run my Aermore off of, complete with proper seams and rivets for a period appearance. If you can provide photos or a working schematic, all the better. :-)

A 275 gallon oval fuel oil tank should work. You can add the valve box to the back of it. You can get used ones cheap and sometimes free.

Ronnie are you referring to Gasoline or home heating oil if the latter why not check with the people in your area that deliver heating oil see if they have an old tank and modify as needed?

Go to your local scrap metal yard and see what they've got. Just don't buy anything that previously held anything hazardous to your health.

I picked up a tank at a local auction. It has a close shape to period tanker trucks I see on the net. It's about twice as long as I need but a little hacking and welding and I'll have a tank. I downloaded a bunch of pictures of old tankers to get an idea of how it should look. Sounds like you have a great project started.

Ronnie,

Do you have a well established fuel delivery service in your area ?

Usually the independent heating oil companies can be of assistance.

I would build it out of 3/4" plywood cut into the oval shape, Spaced apart with 2x2 wooden ribs and wrap it in 20ga steel. design it right and you could have the back of the tank on a hinge that folds out to form a table and have some storage space in the tank. The rivets are easy enough to imitate.

Why not use real rivets? Just drill holes to a short depth, JB Weld them in the holes and when dry, paint them ?

Am I not the smart A** ?

With the hinged/opening tank, you could fill it full of dancing girls for parties, or if your of a less "traditional" persuasion,
fill it with gladiators for "pride day" parades ! :-)

I know of a couple of original tanks just sitting around near here. I'm sure they are near you too why not seek out an original?
