Google "bearings forum".

If you could come up with a high quality reproduction of Hyatt axle bearings at a reasonable price you could probably sell a lot of them.

Reading this and Mr Wangs other thread reminds me of a story I was told just the other day.

A chinese Company would replicate any gear you required, someone had a gear that had striped a tooth, sent it to China and true to their word built a new one, and yes, minus one tooth!!

Hmm... that's a tough question. Join all the car/machine forums and they might have the ability to have a "signature" at the bottom of everything you post and you have your bearing sales contact information in that signature.

If you had a machine to make Hyatt bearings and a source for the steel strip there could be a market for many types of these bearings as they were widely used in the past. One might be able to adapt a spring winding machine to make the rollers and then use a center less grinder to size the diameter. I don' t know if you could use spring steel strip or if the rollers would have to be heat treated after winding. Making the cages and assembling the bearings would be simple compared to making the rollers.

Andy, while you are thinking about bearings, a simpler thing to do would be to manufacture Model T Ford and Model A Ford radiators in China. The radiator I bought for my Farmall tractor was made in China and is of excellent quality.

Frank v E, that reminds me of the 1960 Thunderbird I had, around 1988 I lent it to a Ford dealer (relative) for display purposes and I asked them replace the power steering pressure hose while it was there. It had a home made one on it, put on by a PO. When I picked the car up I was quite ticked off as they had just replicated the hose that was on there instead of sourcing a proper hose for it, which I had expected them to do. IIRC I ended up sourcing a proper hose from Kanter Auto parts and putting it on myself.

Two other bearings come to mind as well, The expensive Timken outer wheel bearing with the left hand threads and that one famous unobtainable bearing in the Warford tranmissions.

Good Luck Fred...

Maybe you can have another occupation - bearing supplier to the Model T World.

(Surely it would be better than skunk trapping!)
