Hello All,
Just finished the reconstruction of a Generator.
This was a hard job to get it right. As I rebuild a few generators before but I am not doing this every day, I still have a lot to learn about it. Started the rebuild a few months ago and had to change about everything inside the generator. Just the housing stays original. This morning, after the final assembly, I put it on my home made test stand and tried to get some current out of it.
It took me about an hour to get it work just after I connected a jump wire on the + battery and make it flint a few times on the generator terminal (not the regulator terminal)
Regulator output was 6.8V and I set the 3rd brush for 3A. On the generator terminal there was 7.6V.
Let it run for about an hour and the regulator output stays 6.8V current stays 3A but the generator terminal had 8.6V. After the hour the generator was hand warm (electric motor was hotter). Now I wonder if the setups are correct? Is it normal there is a change in tension on the generator terminal?

In the text of your message you use the word "regulator", but in the photos you show an original reverse current cutout mounted on the generator. Which device are you using for your tests?
Ron the Coilman
Ron, it was one of the cutouts that came with some parts.
