Looking at buying an enclosed car trailer and considering a rear view camera and monitor. Any thoughts or actual experience with them? I have a 1950 Ford that might get hauled and it would require a 8'6" wide trailer and I anticipate problems with rear view mirrors. If I only hauled a T I could go with a narrower trailer.
I have a rear view camera on my trailer and I really like it. I wired it in so I can use it all the time. Comes in handy on the highway when changing lanes, or backing up to the shop.
I have one and really like it. It's also handy in campgrounds, parking lots, fuel stops, etc. Audio is also handy. You can hear a spotter talking to you. My last rig used a heavy coiled cable between tow vehicle and trailer. This time I used a system that has a wifi antenna on the monitor and a radio on the front of the trailer that is wired to the camera/mic on the back of the trailer. More $$$ but works as well or better than the wired system.
I highly recommend rvcams.com. Very knowledgeable. Very helpful. Only sells quality stuff that works. I tried cheap stuff first and then bought my last 2 systems from him.
I attached an old barn door handle and a plywood step on the back of my trailer. My wife hangs on for dear life when rides back there and she screams when I get too close to anything on the highway or backing into a service area. What is great about this arrangement is that the dog and I have more room in the cab.
Dennis - brilliant idea!
Funny! One guy told me he likes his camera because his wife stays in the cab - so one less thing to hit.
Dennis, maybe you'd be interested in this automatic garage door system?

That's cute!
Eric,
I love the garage door opener video. Thanks for the idea. I'm sure once I can pry her frozen hand off the barn door handle and get her frozen feet unstuck from the plywood I'll train her to open the door.
I have a 3 camera system on my trailer. One on the back and one each on the sides near the front of the trailer. The side view really helps when turning while backing, as well as eliminating blind spots on the highway.

The latest fad in China is to have a camera mounted in your car. One guy had three. I asked why and was told that they want to capture video's of people doing stupid thing so they can post it on U Tube.
I have a camera in my T, The main lens faces out the windshield and the rear lens is mounted on the spare tire. I use it for when there a large lawsuit target painted on my car. What old saying,,, A picture is worth a 1000 words
