Anyone out there have any experience with the replacement coil primary and secondary transformers offered by the various vendors. Seems that lately it's getting more and more difficult to find coils with good wood on them (at least around here). And when you go on EBay it's a crap shoot as to whether your getting good or bad coils. So I was wondering if it would make sense to find the best cases and just replace the primary and secondary transformers, and not have the risk of open windings down the road. Need to know if anyone has any feedback on the reliability of these components.
I have a big pile of rejected coils due to failure of primary / secondary windings but the cases are solid. Its economical to replace the approved capacitor and new points but once you add the cost of a new primary and secondary windings as well, sadly, I then consider the repair against the cost of a new one becomes uneconomical. Particularly here in the UK with the addition of freight and import duty. John
