Nice. I have an old tiger timer in a box NOS just liek that one! It was on my grandfather's shelf for years so who knows how old it is. I've heard Tiger timers aren't very good though.

A good reason they made so many, is because it is a small part and needs work often. You will also see many brands of bands, spark plugs, and tires. All parts which need replacing or service. Someone who had a problem, whether with the part or because they made a mistake in servicing, would hear or see an advertisement about how this new product is better, and would try it. Easy way to make some money. Kind of like selling snake oil!
