A friend is restoring a '26 Coupe and is having a problem determining what color the window moldings should be for a maroon body. We know that the dash and windshield frame are painted the same as the body color, but cannot find anything that will give a definitive answer concerning the garnish moldings and interior window frames. Pictures seem to be all over the board on this one.
I said that I would "ask the man who drives one" for him. So, what color are your window moldings?
Jerry, my barn fresh coupe, which is a late 26, had the windshield, dash and garnish mouldings all black. The body was gunmetal blue. I have seen others that weren't like this however.
I did see in one T restoration book that the dash and windshield frame matched the body color, but your coupe belies that as a hard fact. I don't recall ever seeing an original (barn fresh) car with garnish moldings any color other than black. Merry Christmas Tom and thanks for the input.
Thank-you Jerry, and Merry Christmas to you. I think the theory was that enamel cars (typically green and built early in production) had the dashes and windshields body color. Later proxylin cars (several colors) had black dashes and windshields.
