Found this on Ebay. Will probably put on the power unit I'm restoring. Top is marked "Positive Ford Oil Gauge, Argyle Mach. Co., Winthrop, Mass."
All brass construction, very heavy. The shaft coming out of the top is spring-loaded. Apparently, you would run a wire through the hole in the shaft and pull up. If oil emitted from the hole in the side of the gauge, you were good. Have never seen another one like it.
Neat accessory. But it seems as if you would still have to crawl under the car to check the oil unless I am missing something. I guess I don't see the advantage!
Ron, Here's a similar one I Have.
So I guess the plunger part faces out, towards the passenger side running board?
The operator still has to bend over to look under the car and view the strength of the oil stream/drips.
Kind of what I was thinking, too!!
