Where is the best place to buy a Tall Radiator for the lowest cost for a good one. Do you think the radiator companies would lower their prices or put them on sale? If they reduced the price buy half they would sell a million over night. It seems like everyone has a bad radiator. Unaffordable?

You're dreaming. Sooner than you think, you will need a good one. Try Berg's.

I'll second Berg's. Was the lowest cost when I bought mine for my 26, and exceptional quality. I'd go so far to say I think it's better quality than the more expensive ones I looked at.
It will easily last the lifetime of my car. Very helpful folk to deal with too.

Bought a new radiator in 1985, drove the T a lot, finally in 2007 it sprang a leak with a split tube (round tube). Radiator cost $450, lasted 22 years, only $20 a year.

Bought a new replacement Berg's for $850, it will last 25 years, for only $34 a year.

Expensive is wasting time, energy, on water pumps, fits of overheating, and poor fun, missing tours, with your Model T due to an old junk radiator. :-)

Langs sells Brassworks $780 plus shipping (drop shipped) for the high flat tube, Bergs is $825 plus shipping.

Berg's may not be the lowest price, but low price and quality don't travel together!

Check out what you get for $825 and then compare to the lesser price styles...

I have a Berg's on my 21, and my buddy Curt has a Berg's on his 26. Neither of us run a fan, and they do not overheat in summer traffic

The least expensive approach is to have yours recorded. If you are an enterprising soul you might work out a deal to get 500 built in China and you could be the least expensive new radiator supplier. About 10 years ago I bought an excellent quality radiator for my M Farmall tractor. It was made in China and cost $200. eBay has them now for about $300. These radiators are much larger than a Model T radiators. Its likely your new Chinese radiator might sell for $300 or less. Just think you could corner the market but you might need $50,000 capital to get it going.

Brassworks used to be more than Berg's. I didn't realize that had changed. I have two Berg's radiators and am quite happy with them. I'm sure Brassworks makes a good one, too. Mac's? Well, maybe I ought not go there....

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I have used both Bergs and Brassworks, I have no complaints with either. Bergs no longer makes a brass radiator.

Amazing how often this topic is repeated on the Forum - in the last 4 months it has come up at least three times. I love my Berg's radiators - I have 3 of them I'm running (out of 5 Ts) and will be purchasing #4 this spring. They are an incredible quality radiator especially if you plan on RUNNING your T. Berg's customer service is SECOND TO NONE!! Gery stands by his product and goes the extra mile for the customer. Search the 2014 Forum for my story about Gery delivering a radiator to me last fall. I will only buy Berg's.

The only time that I have heard of a cheaper T tall radiator, than Berg's was when someone said Mac's was selling them cheaper, but I also heard Mac's radiators were made in China. I haven't checked either claim, out.

Bought a Mac's radiator 2 years ago and just put it to work on the coup chassis. It's only been tested for a few minutes but seems to be fine. I waited for a 15% off sale to come along. Harv.

*good* is a subjective term....there are also excellent, fair, usable, etc. Frankly I use *usable*...not new, not perfectly cosmetic, but they serve well. Probably a new one will outlive you...so why? Swap meets, friends, etc. are a good source. Don't worry it to death. There is good value in a used radiator...that's all I have. A model T is not a new car.

Is it smart to only shop by price? Is it smart to think even if the price was $250.00 you could sell 1,000000 new tall one's?? Over 25 to 30 years is the cost so high you need to go off shore?? I must have gotten old enough so i have outlived my time, but i can remember plentyfull job's almost anywhere you looked!! Bud.

How much does a cheap radiator cost followed by an engine which overheats and seizes up? My experience with used radiators is that even though you spend money to have it cleaned and sealed by a radiator shop, it will still overheat. Sometimes money is well spent on a good radiator and saves more money being spent to rebuild an engine unneccessarily.

A high price does not guarantee high quality. For instance, Daryl Becker sells an alternator and a 6 or 12 volt starter for $165. His quality is as good as it gets and you get the same lifetime guarantee his father offered.

I always get the radiators recored.
Had a 30 model A done last month for $447.50.
A new one would have been over $600 plus shipping.

Should I get a new, or repair, or recore or use as is. Repair bullet holes in filler neck.

John,

A little JB Weld here and there and you're good to go. The bullet holes in the filler neck should not present a problem as they are higher than the water level. If the bullet hole on the threaded part messed up the threads, just cover the opening with a little aluminum foil. :-) :-)

Seriously, I've enjoyed this thread. I'm getting close (actually overdue) on my own radiator.

I put a brand new radiator in my TT. Worth every cent. The radiator works on my coupe, but I am saving up for a new one. I am currently having to run a water pump and I want to eliminate it.

If you want good clean oats to feed your horse they are expensive. If you are willing to settle for oats that have already been run through a horse or two I can give you a pretty good price.

My old radiator looked and was worse than the one pictured above, it was fine for puttering around but on long drives at speed it overheated. Bullet holes add character too. Mine had similar holes soldered over.
