I have stumbled onto a very large hoarde of T parts. Some of the things like the engines may be scrap price. So how much does a complete T engine with head and hogs head weigh.? Most of the engines do not have intakes or exhausts. I can get scrap prices the day I go to do the dealing and a good weight will give me a ball park figure... We are talking about somewhere around 20 engines. I could not see them good as they are in piles. Most are inside. I know what to look for as to early years and 26-27 engines, but if they are cheap enough Ill just buy them all ... Ive bought lots of T stuff thru the years, but never by the pound ....

About 480 Lbs,for a complete engine.

Im just in the early stages of the dealing. I have not looked at any numbers, There are several 26-27 engines as I can see the holes for the hogs head. There are probably 20 or more frames, 40 to 50 rear axles, piles of front axle assemblies, He had tractors and hit and miss engines also. probably at least a dozen hit and miss engines, at least 75 magnetos for tractors engines or front drives for Ts. The stuff in the sheds is packed all the way to the ceiling and 20 foot deep. The two main buildings with the "good stuff" in it are just trails and the stuff is hung on the walls for as far as you can see. Most of the complete cars have already been sold. but there are at least three 1/2 finished T "projects" with boxes of new and NOS parts stacked on top of the chassis. I may get it all, some of it, or nothing. I have only talked to the lady who owns it. She seems to be knowledgeable enough to know that it is worth something, but it is not gold. She helped her husband for years at the swap meets sell things. The man who showed the stuff to me was a friend of the family and has no interest in it, and allowed me to "dig around" for a couple hours while we were there. I already have a pile of "smalls" to start the dealing with. also several nice KR Wilson items, Just way too much to describe ...

Donnie I don't know of any details other than what you've given but I hope it doesn't wind up like the old cars, tractors and parts that a neighbor had collected since the 40's. It was quite a bit and since it was out in the country it was on a 5-6 acre pasture with no restrictions. .

He had passed away a few years earlier and his wife had gotten in ill health. A son-in-law got involved who had no interest in what he had collected and wanted to clear the property.

He hired a local scrapper and crusher who crushed it and hauled it off.

Roger, you may have figured it out. Yes Ill be nice, she is a nice lady... Ive known them for years ... Here are a few pics of some of the stuff, I really did not take very good pics that day, I was just overwhelmed ... even though I had been there several times thru the years, These do not even start to show what is there..... seems like I ended up with mostly outside stuff and hardly none of the engines, I did not even get any pics of the fully packed rooms .

Roger, sounds like you may know them fairly well. I was not a close friend but have known Ed thru the T hobby for years, He built lots of things for me as well as we sold to each other for years. Im suprised to not see anything I sold him yet. Some may say why am I posting pics and talking about it before I get anything. My main objective is to see the stuff be saved and move to a new home, help her out some, if I can, and maybe find a few things I need. I really do not need more (I already have almost this much) I am trying to quit or at least slow down (really I am). I have already started the selling and organizing of my stuff. I have told the wife and kids to have an auctuion. I have written down the process they should go thru and how to do the best they can with it. There is one small building of my best treasures that will be sold on e-bay. No Im not skimming the best off and auctioning the junk. It is just the stuff that is way too good to auction... There will be plenty of good quality items for the auction... Here are a few more pics of the current owner of the gas tank business and a little of his work. Almost every repro gas tank on our model Ts has been built by this man or the original owner Ed. They are all the tanks sold thru Langs, Macs, ect .. When this man quits, Im not sure where the tanks will come from, so better buy a spare now if you want one. He has no plans to quit, but like the rest of us, he is getting older ... He is the one in the plaid shirt. Also there is a pic of the inside of a new "torpedo" gas tank, before the end is put on. Most people have never seen the inside of a new tank .. All of the work is done on old machine tools, and home made dies and jigs. and in my opinion is very good, high quality workmanship.

It's not like have enough money to really buy any of that stuff anyway, but, just the same: I hate you man. Lol, LOOK at all of that stuff!!!!! I mean holy crap! Just makes me sick.

Seth, the stuff is out there. Anyone who wants to can find it and buy it. I am no rich man by any means, but thru the years I have bought dozens of hoards just like this. and did it with very little money. The main thing is be honest, and have a very good reputation, and work ethic. It is hard work buying large piles. Very Very hard work, But man is it fun... I may not have the energy anymore to do a pile this big. I may just try to buy just the T stuff or maybe just a pickup load .??? I do not really know yet. Im supposed to go and pick up the custom made speedster tank in a week or so and have a meeting/buying day with the owner then.. By the way, the speedster tank is a custom made size. It is longer, larger diameter, and has special ends. The tank maker is not charging one penny more than a standard tank. I have bought dozens of tanks from them thru the years, but I do not think that is why. I just believe he is an honest, "stand up" kind of man. I will try buying all the engines. The problem with the engines we have to choose from now is they have been "picked over" for years and what is left is the ones not thought good enough years ago. I saw what appears to be three possibly overhauled engines,(they will probably be bought as good engines) but the rest are just "cores" The problem, is with all the work moving them and salvaging what you can, they are not worth a lot over scrap price. I think I would still have enough room to put all the T parts in a shed or out of the weather. My biggest pet peeve is people buying more than they can take care of .. and let it sit out and ruin .

One more thing about the gas tanks. The manufacturer says he is doing over 500 tanks a year. That is a lot of Ts being worked on. For the nay-sayers that think the hobby is dead, that still sounds like a lot of Ts.

Ken, Yes, I have already told the owner about Mark. If I do not buy it, he will be the first contact Ill help her with, unless some local T guys may want to jump on it. There has already been a lot sold, Most of the Model A stuff is gone. The complete cars are almost all gone. I think the 1921 Autocar is still for sale. The 1910 (or 11) International Auto Buggy went to Ohio to a International collector. All the finished tractors are gone, but there is still tons and tons of stuff. The main problem for Mark will be that I have seen no early stuff yet. The engines, frames rear ends ect are just too common and heavy to haul back to Kansas. I believe he could "pick" a load from the stuff, and he may want the Studebaker, but again it is a long haul.

to me, selling the complete cars and room of "good parts" just ruined there auction sale.

These deals are hard, they take time to work out. There is still plenty there for a real nice auction. (that would be the best option) There are lots of unrestored tractors, a few unrestored cars, tools, dozens of stationary engines, a steam engine, a huge 2 cylinder engine probably 75 HP or more, parts, and on and on. But she does not want to do an auction. This is her husbands life and its hard to let it all go at once. Im not the type that needs to make a lot or anything at all, from my help. Im retired and all I do is cars and old stuff. It means more to me now, to see the stuff saved and go to the proper place, than make any money. Im not in shape to donate much labor, and I do not want to lose any money on my help, But I do know lots of people ... who want this stuff... It may sound corny or stupid, or some may not believe me, but Ive reached the point in life, that money does not matter much anymore. I would love to have all the T stuff, and have not ruled it out yet. Its just so hard to pass on a deal when I have done it so long ...

500 tanks a year but many (maybe 50%?) of those are probably used on boats and tractors. Good tank for it though.

i have been seeking junk piles all my life. it seems now, the days of getting it on a scrap clean up deal are gone, and the days of farm auctions of a 4 generation farm where nothing ever left the property are gone, and now have entered the next phase of buying from the guys that were at all those sales and have passed into the scenic roads we have yet to see

Roger, that's strange, this ladys name is also Karen... Clayton, Same as you, Ive been doing it since I was 12 years old. I think it is impossible to quit, once you buy that first big hoard, you are hooked for life... I can think of at least four big hordes as big as this one within an hours drive from me. They will probably become available in a few years. The piles are out there, just keep looking ... Most of the people that say the stuff is getting harder to find, just do not get out there and look. It has changed, some thru the years, Most of the hoards are in the hands of some old collector now. Lots of the stuff is in sheds and barns since the laws have got strict about junk being seen from the road. There are the stories of the large piles being sold to the scrapper, but I feel that is the exception to the rule. And sometimes the scrapper, resells some or all of it to collectors. Some of my best buys are from our local scrappers... But, it is still out there.
