My guess is that it's due to the different painting methods for the body vs. other parts which caused the body paint to fade faster than the other (dipped & baked) ones. There were some recent threads about that. The car appears to be from the late 'teens or early twenties and the tag is a 1927, so the car was several years old when this pic was taken.

My theory is that the high speeds Fords could travel let the wind wear the cowl to a dull finish. :0)

The car is a '19. Could possibly be an early '20 but, there is a shortage of info on the cutoff date.
