Back to George Chambers, a Lawrence Kansas farmer. By 1907, George and his family have moved to town (Lawrence KS) and he owns two Fords, an N and K. The previous thread:
On February 4, 1907, Mr. And Mrs. Chambers leave home to attend the Chicago Auto Show:
Coincidentally, on the same day, the Chicago Ford Branch Store suffers a fire. Ten Model K and twenty-four Runabouts destroyed. The cars were in Chicago for the auto show:
A couple of days later the newspaper reports the sale of a Chambers farm:
In May, George Chambers buys an 18 foot boat, moving it to the dam near Lawrence:
In June, 1907, the Kansas City Ford branch ran the following testimonial written by Mr. Chambers about his Model K. He says he has put over 7,000 on the car, and intends to drive it to PA Chicago again during the summer:
Next, Chambers buys another Ford.....
Finishing up 1907.
A few week earlier, at the end of April, another Lawrence Kansas resident buys a Model K:
In June, the Chambers again drive their Model K to Pennsylvania, as they did in 1906:
A the same time, another Lawrence citizen buys a Model K. This is a gray, seven passenger car. There are now three Model K Fords in town.
Upon returning from their eastern trip, George Chambers buys a third Ford, a dark green Model R. I would say George is a Ford man:
The Ford dealer, Mr. Chadwick, is doing a land office business. This article says he has sold 13 Ford turnabouts and six cylinder cars. It also says he is going to Kansas City to pick up another six cylinder car for a customer:
The next Model K goes to B. D. Woodward. The article says it's light red in color:
We now have four Model K in Lawrence Kansas:
In December, the local newspaper publishes a list of the registered car owners. I attempted to find the cars each owned. Some may have more than one car, but there is a wide variety in cars.:
You may have noticed I list five Model K owners. In January 1908 another Lawrence resident buys a Model K:
Meanwhile, a reality book, Jackson's, list Lawrence Kansas with a population of 13,000 in 1908:
According to these numbers, about twelve percent of the cars in Lawrence KS at the beginning of 1908 are Ford Model K! Not bad for a car nobody liked.
Later I'll get into 1908. Wait till you see what George Chambers buys next......
