I hope the kid didn't travel like that. One of my dad's stories is about a family near West Plains, Missouri, who bought as new 1936 Chrysler Airflow. The family had twin sons. When the family went for their first ride in the new car, the twins were sitting on the hood. They hit another car head-on and the twins were killed.
