Titanic vs modern cruise ship.
Interesting comparison Gary. Titanic was 882 feet long and had a gross displacement of about 46,000 tons. A modern cruise ship is typically about 950 feet long and displaces around 110,000 tons, about the same as a modern nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
I'm always amazed at how much of these modern ships is above the water line and what a tremendous amount of ballast it must take just to keep the thing right side up.
We're going on a cruise in June on one of those monster ships with 3 other couples. Last weekend we all had dinner together, a sort of planning session. I asked if we could watch the movie Titanic, but no sale.
