Went to visit a T friend across town yesterday. He had offered to braze a part of the left rear door latch on my 15 touring. I had improvised a temporary door latch to hold the door shut for the trip.
I was making a right turn (in second gear so I was moving) when the rear door flew open and shot out a 1 gallon bottle of antifreeze that I had put on the back floor. It shot about 20 feet sideways and directly in front of a cop car that was just coming to a stop at the light.
The flashing lights came on immediately and my first thought was 'oh boy, this is it". The T had a nice big slow triangle on the back and a amber flasher on the fender, both technically illegal. I stopped and crossed the road. The cop lowered the window and I asked if I was in trouble. He said heck no, he was just holding traffic while I got my antifreeze bottle.
I know he saw the triangle and the flasher, but no problem. There really are some good ones out there.
BTW the brazed door latch worked a treat. Better yet, even though traveling at 37 mph down a 45 mph road, no one complained or rode my rear. A fine day overall.
It sounds like P.C. has calmed down and is back to normal. Many good times there in my younger days.
I could have been worse, it could have been a six pack of bottled beer
That's why I carry a box of doughnuts with me. When they stop me I just roll one down the road and as they chase after it I pull away!
Dennis: Good one! Made my wife laugh too. ;o)
Ahh, likely where the term Doughnut Chaser came from for us Packard guys... :-)
