"Desired protection in cold weather" ???
What might that be ???
Does this look like a 1911 Ford?
Could this have caused Ford to make their own fore doors in 1912?
Many other car manufacturers were offering fore-doors at this time.
Wishful thinking for making the car interior a little warmer?!
Irvin was one company of several that supplied aftermarket fore-doors for the 1911 Model T. It was the latest and greatest thing. A great safety feature. No more small children falling out of the car.
After the success of fore-doors on the late 1911 and new 1912 cars, Ford offered aftermarket fore-doors to retrofit 1911 cars. Ford made them available in the fall of 1912.
There were companies that made aftermarket fore-doors for 1909-1910 cars, too.
All coming up in a future article.
