I am looking to install a new one man top for my 1924 touring car. I've been inactive with my car for the last 3 or 4 years, and I'd like to get it looking nice and presentable for this coming summer.
Is there anyone in the downstate NY area (Orange County to be specific) that is talented in this regard that might be willing to give me a hand in making this happen?
I haven't bought a top yet - I thought I might ask if there is any one kit that is best -
Thanks for looking!
If your budget allows, you could contact Elizabeth's new business and she could come to your house and install your top for you, or train you to do it yourself.
Elizabeth used to own Classtique Upholstery, but she sold that business to a well-trained apprentice, I'm sure she still uses their products.
Bob, you will have plenty of time to make a decision on that top installation.
No one stocks the tops and all quote 8 weeks lead time for a delivery, as far as I can determine while recently looking for a 1921 Touring upholstery part.
Mike at http://www.classtiqueupholstery.com/ was the only one willing to help me.
I installed a Classtique top kit on my 1924 cut-off touring car (now a pickup) by myself in 2013. It was my first attempt at doing a top and I found the instructions that came with the kit to be very helpful. I bought a pneumatic stapler before I attempted the installation, it was very helpful because it allowed me to pull and hold the material with one hand while I stapled with the other. I also did a lot of trial fitting with clamps and push pins before I stapled anything down for good.
Here is the 2013 thread covering my installation:
Classtique also has a couple of good instructional videos on their website:
