I finally found time to work on my "19 touring project. Took apart the rear axle and found a mess. Of the 10 bolts that hold the ring gear to the left half of the differential case; the head was broken off one, wired together in pairs 2 of the wires were broken, all bolts were loose or just finger tight. The thrust washers were "missing"(ground up into very small pieces). I got anxious to get it apart and forgot to take pictures. I do have a picture of the left half differential case showing pieces broke off around one of the holes. Everything else looks ok, gears are all good, etc. Should I reuse the differential case or find another one?

That's normal Ford casting, the parts just look like that. No concern.

But do check the mating surfaces for wear, the steel thrust ring areas, and the pinion bearing areas. The pinion bearing needs to be kept firm without wobble, so the triple gears do the correct work.

THANK YOU !! That is a big relief. I will be checking everything more thoroughly before reassembly. I need to do a lot of cleaning also. I need to order new thrust washers and new axle bearing sleeves
