For anyone who has a vehicle affected by the massive Takata airbag recall - if you want your airbag replaced sooner rather than later, it might pay to call your dealer and ask about it.

Recall notices are being sent out slowly, with priority is being given to cars in coastal environments and persistent high humidity.

I decided not to wait until a recall notice arrived, so I called my Honda dealer and asked them about it. They said they would order a replacement airbag for me and call me when it came in. It came in two weeks later and I had the work done this morning at no charge, it took less than an hour.

:-)

Interesting, as we relieved the recall notice for our Honda over a month ago (before all the publicity about it) and were told the bag would likely get here in July. Still waiting.

All my cars to too old to be affected. :-)

Here's an NHTSA "official" list of the affected vehicles as of June 22. There's a VIN lookup on the page too.

Not too many Fords on the list and the first one isn't even a real Ford.

I checked on safecar.com and my 16 has no pending recalls.

Hmm, interesting thought, did Ford ever recall any Model Ts, or was the concept unknown at the time?

Bear in mind the replacements are still explosive devices pointed at your head. There is no guarantee that they are going to be any safer.

A friend of mine lives on the coast and has been driving a loaner car for over a month while his Ridgeline sits at home waiting for an airbag. The dealership didn't want him driving the Honda and didn't want to be responsible for storing it. The loaner car is a new car and it won't be when it gets returned....someday

I wouldn't drive a car with airbags.

Looks like our 07 Mustang is on the list. Thanks for posting this because we didn't know and
I keep forgetting to look it up. I hate air bags, its like looking down at a loaded shot gun to me. Now it's time to call Ford and get this thing out of our face. How long does it take to mail a recall notice?
