Just a quick update... The car and participants are doing very well. We gave it a thorough look-over and made a couple adjustments today, but nothing major. I am joining the group for the next week or so and hope to add an occasional update when I have a chance.

I wanted to bring this topic back to the top as I'm not sure if everyone knows that this is going on. What an amazing adventure. We are heading to the Grand Canyon today. We've met so many great people along the way. The car has performed beyond my expectations. We have really challenged the T.

What is your route from LA to Pismo? Any stops planned in the Ventura area?

I really enjoy this blog. I started mid way. I started reading the earlier posts tonight. I just read that they are averaging 7 mpg and the water pump is leaking? This is when they are in Missouri.

I have never done a mpg calc. But I always thought we get better than 7?

Water pump was not a part of Edsel's trip. I wonder why anyone thinks that is a good idea.

No no no Royce, I don't want to ruin this good conversation about an epic road trip by starting a water pump debate... How's the weather down in Georgetown?

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

I agree. When I joined the group in McPherson, I was skeptical about the water pump. Very skeptical. I packed a water inlet, gasket and bolts for when it dripped or failed altogether. We drove across the plains of Kansas in 105° temperatures. We climbed some pretty big hills. It runs cooler than mine, which do not have water pumps. The temperature never got to the bottom of the circle in the motometer.

Like I said, I agree, Model T's don't need water pumps. But, once in a while, when everything else is good, it seems, it doesn't hurt either. I can't believe I just said that.

And thank you, Paul, for trying to keep it about the trip, not the water pump.

I should add that note that the engine has some miles on it, and the carburetor is behaving a little better, I believe that the mileage is more like 16-18 mpg.

All joke aside, good for you Chris, that looks to be quite a good time. I'm sure they are glad to have you around.

Any details available on the route and approximate times from Los Angeles to Pismo?

Pismo Beach is the scheduled stop for the night of August 8. The route is determined "as we go". If records of Edsel's stops exist, those are included each day, if possible. I'll see if I can get more details on any stops between Los Angeles and Pismo Beach. Here is the link with the itinerary.

Thank you Chris. I have seen this itinerary, which is why I was asking. I don't expect you'll go over the grapevine on I-5 and cut over, I think you'll take the coast up through Ventura and Santa Barbara counties... probably PCH through Malibu, then Oxnard and Ventura and on to Santa Barbara. I'm actually in Camarillo, and would like to either drive along with you a bit or at least see you guys pass through. If I know an approximate time and we can trade phone numbers I'd like to catch up with you on PCH north of Malibu. If you can let me know an expected route and timing that would be great. I'd drive my '15.

Gary-I left the group at the Grand Canyon, and couldn't arrange a meeting or at least get the route to you.

Philip-They have been very busy, and the journalist/photographer left for home a couple days ago. I imagine they will continue to update the blog as they are able.

Royce- I just asked about the hood because I did not experience any overheating while I was driving and navigating. The hood has been off because that is how Edsel ran quite a bit of his trip as seen in this photo:

Why are they push starting the car all the time?
