The car on the right side foreground of the photo looks to be 1935 - 40 era.
Agreed. The parked sedan in the middle left appears to be mid-30's as well. It's still a great historical photo, though.
I cleaned it up a bit:
Added warning sign at S.Gilbert and the railroad track.
My eyes must be playing tricks on me, I see what looks like a large, curved tower extending up behind the "Mobilgas" sign on the original picture. The shape reminds me of one leg of the Gateway Arch.
Does anyone else see it?
Mark, I see what you are talking about, it took me a little while to find it. I think what we are seeing is a shadow on the original glass plate, I say shadow because the clouds look well defined to me.
Jay, thank you for posting these pictures, I enjoy the peek at a moment in time, as they make my imagination get to work.
Eugene, how the landscape has changed over the years, thanks.
What did Gilbert do with those mountains in the background ???
What I find unusual is the presence of a railroad in the current picture, but none in the original.
So many tracks have been pulled up; it always saddens me a little, although I can't explain why.
