A friend is looking for a speedster his grandpa built in the early 1980s- was built in Montana- may have ended up there or in Arkansas - we are looking for pics of it- I know it was green- yellow wheels maybe? He called it the grasshopper. Does anyone have any leads?
There was a car in San Jose CA called the Grasshopper. It ran the SCVMTFC endurance run in the 80's and early 90's. It was recently for sale. The car was green.
Is this the grasshopper you are looking for?
Check scvmtfc.org, May 2015 newsletter.
That's the one I was thinking of Bob. Not sure if it is the one Evan is looking for.
The green speedster no.15 shown above is named "Grasshopper" it was built in the early 1970's by Victor Schmidt of San Francisco. Vic ran the car on many of the Santa Clara Model T Club sponsored speedster runs.
Hi Phil! You need to answer questions here more often. I often see questions that I am sure you would know the answer to. I have known of this "Grasshopper" since about 1980 also, but I did not recall who had built it until you said so. Vic Schmidt was quite a character. He also had a '20s Studebaker if I recall correctly.
It sounds to me as though Evan is asking about a different "Grasshopper".
I wish Evan D "Good Luck" on his quest!
Thanks for the responses guys! The green speedster in California doesn't appear to be the car- the car i'm looking for was built by Art Mueller- Scobey, MT probably in the late 70's or early 80s and raced in Montana and Southern Saskatchewan. His collection was divided amongst his kids, and they lost track of the speedster, as it may have ended up lost in a divorce or something. The family thinks it may have gone to Arkansas, but it may have remained in Montana too. I'm working on getting a pic if we can find one- thanks for all your help so far! Evan in Saskatchewan
