A search of previous discussions unearthed the suggestion of using lids from paint thinner cans. That sounded great. It also sounded too good to be true, and it was. The empty gallon cans I have came with two sizes: too small and too big.
I haven't tried a Briggs & Stratton tank lid yet, so I don't know about that. Anybody have any other ideas?
What are the dimensions ?

The Briggs lids work from early edgers and mowers
Also some of the early paint thinner/gas cans
I have reproduction cans and the lids off liquid Sterno for serving trays are identical. I got some from Gordon Food Service.
Thanks to Ed for the suggestion. I haven't tried Sterno yet, but this fits.
Briggs & Stratton part #498156. Not the same style but it fits just right. I paid $9.73 at Orscheln for this one. Online they range from eight bucks and change to over $12, plus shipping.
Steve,
I bought some reproduction Boyco lids about 6 or 7 years ago. I have no idea if they still make them but it is worth a phone call.
The website is still up, so I sent an email. We shall see.
Steve -
How about a B&S cap that isn't stepped? For example:

I bought a set like Paul's several years ago, but I wasn't clever enough to keep their contact info.
Mike,
I still have them in the original shipping box. Otherwise I would not have been able to report where I bought them!
