I suppose some detergent oil would have dissolved all that goo in no time. And plugged the oil passages. NOT.
I never could figure out if detergent oil dissolves everythig, could/would it plug the oil passages?

Why in hell would anyone attempt to start an engine that had been sitting for decades without dumping the sludge and putting in clean oil? The crud in that A was in better shape then I would have expected.
