I'm tearing down a spare motor to see what I got in a wonder deal. It's a 26-27 motor, standard bore size and the crank is standard dia. journals. It has iron pistons. From the pictures can you tell if the rings are stock Ford? The spring was behind the second compression ring. Haven't seen that before on a compression ring. PK
Not original Ford rings. Those you have are pretty much standard type replacement rings you can buy today for the cast iron pistons.
Thanks Richard. Do you know what the spring steel ring does behind the compression ring? PK
It's an expander ring that increases the pressure on the ring so it seals better to the cylinder. Might increase wear, but was a low cost option to get more miles out of the engine without a full bore and piston job.
Here's a thread with picture of the same type of expanders sold as accessories: http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/506218/584620.html?1446831333
Thanks Roger. PK
The expander ring you have I believe is to be used behind the oil control ring at the skirt. KGB
