This one assembly is really two separate assemblies. It was so large and complex that I had to break it into two.

The other problem is, so many of the parts overlap years that the date I've posted in the title, is really almost absurd, but I had to put something there. The chief difference I can see from this assembly to the 26-27 is the differential housing...it is the only thing that seems different. The one I've got drawn I think is incorrect, for the year span I've titled (I think the differential housing is for an earlier year than stated).

I just couldn't find any good pictures of what this years span is supposed to look like. Anybody got pictures of it?

I was also thinking that since the differentials are all basically the same, I could maybe instead of making them all, just show as I've done with some of the parts, windows with the parts and the differing years they're for.

Martin...excellent diagram post. This will help a lot of guys work on their rear axles. (I felt saying "rear end" might not be P/C!! LOL)

On the second drawing, 2593 is the drive shaft roller bearing sleeve and 2587 is the drive shaft roller bearing. These should be 2508 and 2509QL or 2509BQL (same sleeve and bearing as the outer).

Martin, It's very good & will help many of us when working on the rear axle assembly.

Just a suggestion, but a similar drawing of the driveshaft assembly to accompany the rear axle assembly might be helpful also.

Keith

Great work Martin. I love your drawings. Just two comments.
In the first exploded view of the internals, you do not show the thrust washer between the two axles.
The proportions of the axle housings are little off to my eye. The backing plate is too small in comparison to the diff centre, and perhaps they are a little short. Would it fit with your interpretation to show a split in the tube to bring the two ends together, thus eliminating the length issue?

Hope this helps.
Allan from down under.

Allan, the thrust washer is there, it's just very faint...got to you're right about the sizing differences, I thought about that after I posted it. I had made the first assembly and the second assembly all at the same time. Then I thought it would be better if I broke them up, so I made the Differential Assembly a little larger to show the parts better. But when I assembled them and put it with the axle housings, I forgot about the enlargement I had done...needless to say I've fixed that.

I also thought of breaking the housings a bit to keep the assembly in the same line, but since there is so much that goes in for the outside as well as the inside I still ended up breaking my line. It didn't make sense to break the line for just a few parts, better to have all the parts associated with the housing on the same line and then stuff in the axle/differential assembly from another line.

Keith, the Driveshaft/Torque Tube is one of my next drawings.

David, lol, you're right, I just looked again at the parts books...I change that.

Does anybody know if the Differential housing cover is correct for this year span? I'm still trying to find out if I've got the correct one or not.

Here's the corrected versions...

These are wonderful drawings, such a talent.... A very minor point is that the bearing shells are shown up side down. The split should be at the bottom. I know it will not show as well when shown correctly but if anyone uses the drawing, and I am sure they will, they will insert the shells wrong.

Tony you're right, thank you I'll change that...tha hole should be facing to the rear of the axle, lol...I should have seen that myself.

I also forgut the dope cups on the back of the axle housing...this will give me a chance to darken up more of those lines a wee bit. :-)
