THIS DAY IN HISTORY
On December 10, 1915, the 1 millionth Ford car rolls off the assembly line at the River Rouge plant in Detroit.
One millionth Ford or one millionth Model T?
December 10, 1915 saw Ford Model T engine numbers 999,041-1,000,640.
According to Bruce's book, number 1,000,000 was at 1:53 1/2 P.M., presumably Eastern Standard Time.
At Highland Park.
Mike, it was US Model T engine #1,000,000. that was produced December 10, 1915. Canadian production had a different number series, but had only reached ~#50,000 by december 1915. (37,500 by july 31 1915, 70,000 by july 31, 1916)
Total Pre T production 1903-1908 was perhaps 25,000 cars = less than what was produced during the rest of december 1915.
Car numbers were abandoned earlier in 1915, they used to be lower than the engine # - maybe due to sales of numbered engines as spares?
So it's possible Ford really had produced 1,000,000 cars worldwide by december 10, 1915 - depending on how many engines had been sold as spares up until then.
