Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, Maine is seeking a Model T roadster, preferably 1916 or earlier, to display during the summer of 2016 as part of an exhibit about the postcard business. A reproduction of a box used to carry equipment for photographers working for the Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company would be displayed on the rear of the Model T. A vintage photograph of the original box mounted on a 1915 roadster are below. The primary requirements for the Model T are that it looks like a Model T, has a roadster body, and anything behind the roadster body (turtle deck, pickup box, etc) could be temporarily removed to mount the reproduction box.
Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company started in 1909 and was based in Belfast, Maine. They published postcards using photographs taken by photographers who traveled throughout Maine and New England. The photographers first used a Maxwell with a steamer trunk on the back, and then a 1912 Model T followed by a 1915 Model T, each with the box mounted on the rear. Penobscot Marine Museum has over 28,000 of Eastern's negatives and is making the images available to the public.
