Hi everyone,
for our voyage, I`d like to contact a Model T club in Bakersfield. I tried to find out about the Model T Club of Kern County, but there was no phone number listed. We would like to check out about some parts that should go on the car, while we are still in Germany. We might save a little time with planning ahead.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Bernd
I don't know about a Model T club, but if you go to Bakersfield I recommend dinner at the Noriega Hotel (reservations needed) and ice cream at Dewar's,
Don't know about the Kearn County club, but there will be a swap meet in Bakersfield April 17-18 2009.
Norm
Hello Bernd,
Did you try the email address for the Kern club president on this web site? It is listed under the Chapters link. I think that the April swap meet is listed in the Horseless Carraige Gazette, but I am away from my recent copy so I can not confirm this.
Evan
Bernd: Bakersfield swapmeet is HCCA.
When will you be in the area? I live a couple of hours away but work in Bakersfield a few times a month.
Hi everyone,
I contacted a Model T Club member in Bakersfield and we will meet on Oct.28 and take a look at the car.
So far we still have the idea to drive it to the other coast, but of course we have to check its condition.
Gary: We plan to go on the road on Thursday, Oct.30, depending on how much care the T will need.
Steve: Thanks for the dinner ideas. We will check it out!
Can`t wait...
Thanks everyone,
Bernd
Bernd,
If you are going to buy a T and drive it across the United States, you are a brave soul. You must have real trust in the seller and in the condition of the car. I would suggest you rent a U Haul van and carry it across. You will need to be very familiar with the car and drive at many times of shorter trips before going 3,000 miles across deserts and mountains and through possible show and ice to get it across the country. Then I would suggest a southern route through southern Arizona and New mexico and Texas and across to Georgia. It gets icy up north this time of year.

Shipping the car from Long Beach in a container would be cheaper. You can get the car from Bakersfield to Long Beach however you want. That's an all day drive in a good running T. It should provide plenty of adventure given the conditions, attitude and ineptitude of Southern California drivers.
Bernd,
Agree with Norm, I'd take the I-10 go east until you hit water then turn left. One big problem, there is a whole lot of empty space between towns & you can't get a cell phone signal.
