Anybody know where I might look for the ID# on my 26? The engine is a 24, so it's no help. Thanks. Bob
Bob
Remove the bottom floorboard and look for a number stamped on the top of the passenger side frame rail about where your feet would be if flat on the floor.
Ron the Coilman
Thank you, Ron. I'll check there tomorrow. Bob
Check out this thread Robert.

Thank you, Dennis. The number is on the right frame rail where you guys said it would be. After a good bit of sandpaper work I can only make out one digit and some other marks that I can't read. I'll have to use more finesse. Thanks for your help, men. Bob
The numbers were not stamped very deep. Use fine sandpaper and a bright light, like a lazer pointer and you can probly identify all the digits. You get extra points if the engine number is a match.
My engine number did not match and I wanted to change the engine, so I took the Model T, old engine and went to DMV to explain the problem. A State Trooper inspected my vehicle, wrote down the numbers on a special form and then I paid $10 for a corrected title with the frame number for the serial number. Now I can change engines daily, if needed.
As you can see by my frame # (in the picture) they aren't stamped in a neat orderly way.
Block sand the frame till it's shiny, then take a black magic marker and paint the whole area with it. Then lightly block sand the area again. the marker will be absorbed into the rust remaining in the numbers. You'll still have to dig then out with a small, sharp object.
Here's another helpful hint, you're looking for numbers that range (roughly) between 12990077 and
14619254.
I'll try that, Dennis. Thanks again. Bob
Keep us posted. Where's Riverview? I live in Englewood, about 20 miles south of Venice.
Hi, Dennis. I haven't gotten back to checking on the chassis number yet. Riverview is just south east of Tampa along U.S.301. I'm somewhat familiar with Englewood. Years ago, my family and I used to take beach vacations near there on Manasota Key. Lovely place. Bob
I took a lovely (lost) "tour" of your area a while back when that tanker went off I-75 on to 301.
I'm a Viet Nam Vet, I spend a lot of time up at "Bay Pines" in St. Pete.
Once I get the new engine in my 27, I might feel confident enough in it to drive it farther than I care to walk home from, might just run into you one of these days.
Keep me posted on how you do with that number. It would be to your advantage to register that car with the frame # just in case you find a 26/27 "improved" engine for it.
Yes, I'm hoping to register my 26 with the frame number. A title does exist but the previous owner/heir is having trouble picking it out of a bunch of other car titles. We think we've come up with another way to match title to car. Chances of reading the number off the frame is looking pretty grim. I know I've found the right place as there is a very clear figure 4 but all else is extremely vague. Can't even tell if the 4 is early or late in the sequence. This week the Florida Flywheelers is having their annual Fall Fuel-up if you should feel like driving up to Ft.Meade on Saturday (lots of Model Ts, other old cars, old tractors, flywheel engines etc.) www.floridaflywheelers.org will give you location and other details. You're allowed to bring a golf car or atv for transportation and can also rent golf cars on site. I have a friend's red 21 touring car and a couple other items there. Bob
Dennis,
I also have a 26 Touring but mine was mfg in Aug of 25. Early cars with the "improved" bodies had no numbers on the frame, only on the motor. DMV gave me grief as the car had a CA title that showed the car as made in 25 and by mistake, a 25 model. Since my motor was in the car since mfg, the number matched Bruce McCally's book description of a 26. With the book facts, they allowed me to get a revised title to 26. Very difficult to change years if you need to. They do not recognize body changes. We are close as the car is in N. Redington Beach, FL. Would like to see your car. If you want, contact me off forum and I can give rest of the story.
Nick
Had the same problem Nick when I got mine it was registered as a 28? Went through nothing but grief with them until somebody there found out that this car was at one time owned by the father of the Supervisor of the Sarasota County DMV's!
Then they phoned me and made an appointment to come down and fix everything.
