I recently bought a box full of Model T odds and ends. Sort of a re-supply of my boxes of odds and ends that come in handy from time to time.
Buried in the box of “stuff” was this interesting timer (amongst many others). It has a cast brass housing and cast brass roller hub. The roller assembly has a flat disk-like base that fits into a recess in the timer housing. The timer housing has a hole that goes straight through from the cam and out a snout sort of thing on the front. The insulation is some sort of reddish material. The wires fasten to the outer rim with thumbscrews.
The Bruce McCauly book shows a similar 2 piece timer for 1909 and 1910. The roller assembly looks identical, and the way the wires fasten to the housing is the same. But the snout on mine is longer and there isn’t any way a cover could fasten onto it.
Here's a link to more pictures of the timer:

So, does anyone out there have any info on this timer?
Here's another picture of the timer

You have a 1906-1908 NRS timer. You can see ours in this chasis photo. It is "conveniently" located at the rear of the engine, and partially hidden by the transmission. There is a cover that goes on the front of yours missing. The "snout" is actually the part that faces forward toward the engine, riding on the rear of the camshaft.
Just to follow up, the threaded plug for the oiler is the giveaway. The cover is attached by two small studs and thumb nuts that are missing from your case. The 09 - 10 style doesn't have an oiler or a flange at the rear, don't know if the spacing of the contacts is different.
Thank you Rob and Richard,
That makes sense. I couldn't figure out how this would fit on a T, even though it seemed related.
Beautiful chassis Rob.
Brad,
Thanks, this is the finished product. I'll try to post a few photos of a complete two piece NRS timer later to this thread.
