I have tried twice this week to post a Classified Ad with no success. The last posting shown is Dec. 15. What am I doing wrong?
Please forgive posting here. A friend is trying to mount a Splitdorf external magneto on a speedster and he needs a Timing Gear Cover Part #3017B (For starter block with no generator). This part is shown on pages 67 & 68 of Bruce McCalley's Comprehensive Parts Catalog.
Does anyone have one or know how to make one?
If this is the chunk that goes behind the front cover, I have one on one of my engines and it's a relatively simple part. If you have access to a milling machine, you should be able to make one using a generator style casting as a reference point. I found mine at Bob's Antique in Illinois but he noted they are few and far between when you're looking for them. Before I found mine, I actually considered molding one with two part epoxy and cardboard shims over the gear to set up clearance. It probably would have worked because this is not a structural member on the engine.
I can provide a photo of it in the installed position if you need one.
James I too have been trying to put an ad on MTFCA swap site, I e-mailed Bruce this a.m. I'll go look I might have that 3017-B danuser88@socket.net
