They had the key attached to the coffee can lid and you had to hook it into the tab and wind the metal band open to get the lid off. Then you had to get a band-aid because of being cut by the sharp edge of the can. Canned hams, spam, and some others had the same system. But isn't it great when you first break the vacuum on the can and smell the fresh coffee.

There is a an abandoned town in Texas, southwest of Waco called The Grove. Everything is preserved as if the original owners closed the door and walked away. The general store still has the bolts of cloth, tools still in the counter cases and the room at the back of the store still has the tires along with the coffins.
