J.A. Ferguson built up a business in those Melbourne suburbs and became very well known. My wife was born within a short walking distance of the Coburg shop, and her mother was a frequent customer there. Fergusons is still a family business.
Another contemporary pastrycook business was that of Otto Plarre who became very well known too, but in a different suburban area. The two family businesses merged in 2012 to become 'Ferguson Plarre' and are still trading with several shops.
