A Model T wheel from the twenties can be Hayes, or it can be Kelsey. It can't be both. The two companies didn't merge until after Model T production ended.

It is a Hayes front wheel for a Model T, just like the set on my '17 torpedo runabout:

That wheel has been listed on the local Craigslist for at least 4 or 5 months. They always had it listed and described as a KELLEY wheel. Ads that would come up in a search constantly are now all gone.

I saw it listed on Craigslist about a week ago. The ad said the wheel had been dug up in the woods somewhere--found with a metal detector.

Patina you can almost see through. One of our favorite hunting grounds was along a river that was flooded when the water got high. There were about 30 T Touring bodies among the scrap iron that we robbed treasures off of. Sticking out of the dirt was all manner of art like this wheel including a Harley frame and front end. If we only had the foresight to save some of it.

At swap meets my wood wheels end up going as garden ornaments rather than for cars. It is funny how things evolve.

Rich
