Tom nailed it. I've held one in my hands at a swap meet with conflicting feelings - cool old tool with a T connection, but the mechanical side of me decided against buying it since I couldn't think of ever using it, putting the poor old hickory spokes through such strain, considering how tight some rear wheels sits on their axle cones.

I also think it is a wood spoke wheel puller, to be used if the threads on the rear hub are damaged. Mind you I think it would also destroy the spokes as well...
