I am working on a 1925 pickup and have a couple questions on rivets and riveting. The old timers in my club say forget it you will never get the rivets to look or hold properly and that the best method is to use round headed internal wrenching screws and nuts and bondo the heads to make them look like rivets. How hard is it to rivet the brackets back on a fender?
Are they using the wrong rivet guns to drive them, should it be a four x rivet gun?
Maybe it a matter of technique?
I recently had 4 rivets replaced on both front and rear right fenders on my '13. Joe Bell pounded 'em in while I did the fender "holding"...he heated em, beat the crap out of them and that was it. He had a special gizmo that the round head part laid onto. I got the rivets from one of the vendors. Whole process took maybe 20 minutes. They look to match perfectly with the others.
